Almost over...

With one week left in the semester, I am currently waiting to have an interview for the internship managing the social networking sites of an established band. This will happen May 3rd (hopefully), and I will be able to register for the internship course by the next semester. The biggest problem I have had with these intership opportunities is that none of them have given me a definite answer and to register for the internship course you have to have a definite internship. This is delaying my registration for the course and I am getting closer to not being able to register at all. I have learned that if you want something you have to go after it and make sure your being consistent will checking on the status of whether or not the internship is avaiable for you. In this industry you have to have that "go getter" attitude to survive and make a name for yourself and over the semester I have learned how to go about doing just. In order to get what I want (need) I have to be persistent. There are thousands of college students after the same job I am so I have to make myself stand out and present myself as an asset to these companies, not just another intern.

Working on an internship for the summer

I am meeting with my friends Aunt May 3rd. I haveto drive to long island to meet with her where she will be explain the work I would have to do during the internship. I know it has to do with managing this bands social networking sites and managing their home website. I am excited to see what I can learn through this internship. Fortunatley I will be doing most of the work online because she lives so far. If I had to drive an hour and a half every day I would be not so excited becasue gas prices are going up this summer. I am not definite if I am going to follow through with this depending if I am qualified enough for the position but hopefully it will work out for the best. I will probably get to post one more blog before the semesters over so I can let everyone know what happens when I meet with her.

Another Internship Opportunity

A friend of mine, her uncle is in a band who was big in the 70's and the woman who manages them needs an intern to manage their social networking sites and main website. It is paid 10 dollars and college credits. I am meeting with her May 3rd. Although it is not exactly editing, it definitely is aroudn the lines of what I want to go into for a career, and can give me great experience in the industry.

Good News!

I had not posted anything last week because nothing was happening for sure but I started editing a "bulletin" that is distrubuted in my church weekly. The bulletin is a short newsletter filled with dates and information for events going on in the church each week. I work with a women named Carol Giffen. She is not in the editing field but has been editing for the newsletter for years with the church. I am learning many things from her, but I am networking with people she has introduced me to, and trying to find someone a can work with who edits for a living. So far it has been useful and I will continue working with her even after the semester is over.

Looking into internships for the summer!

I have been researching all types of internships around my major from PR internships, music labels, production internships, etc. They are located in NYC and most are unpaid but the experience would be vital for me to get a job after I graduate. This opportunity for me to network and meet people will possibly be my greatest chance to get in a company espiecally since people are getting laid off everyday. I have editted for the church paper. It is not very excited (to be honest) Most of the articles are biblical and bland. Also the writers of the articles have been doing this forever so mistakes are few and far inbetween but it is giving me expierence and a chance to learn more about editing.

internship.....down the drain :(

Unfortunatley the internship with record label was not all i thought it was. So moving foward I am handing in my application for the summer internship with my step mom's company. This is the best option for me right now because its paid and well paid at that. (Especially since I just quit my regular job). Other than that I am going to do some editing for a chuirch newsletter. They are looking for people to review and edit the newsletter. That I will use as my experiential for this class.

Best News!!!!!

I have been trying to get this internship through a friend, and I finally got it!! It is with a indepedent record label. They are just getting started but they have had interns from Ramapo College before. I will be working the PR, Marketing, Advertising aspect and anything else I can soak up. I know that this has nothing to do with copy editing unfortunatley but, its what I really what to end up doing, so I am just in this mostly for the experience.
